A day trip to Brussels

On December 3rd, 2009 by .

Last weekend, myself and a few other Bloggers were invited on a Little Break press trip to Brussels with Eurostar.

It was an eventful day starting at an eye watering 5.30am in order to catch the 6am Eurostar from a very cold St Pancras.  Once we had all tucked into the breakfast and got to know each other a little better, we had arrived.  It seemed so quick.

Our first stop was the well known Planete Chocolat where we were given a talk all about the origins of chocolate as well as sampling some of their delicious offerings!

…and then on to the well known Christmas market.  Brussels Christmas market

I found the market a little disappointing as I was expecting to see hundreds of stalls all selling unique Christmas gifts but sadly this wasn’t the case  That said, there was still a good amount of stands selling a variety of goodies to buy.  Expect to find things such as children toys, foodie items such as meats, olives and olive oil (the type of things you’d expect to find at Borough Market) as well as Mongolian slippers! and much more.

Overall, I would say Brussels is a great place to go for a day trip but I am not sure I would stay for much longer.  It’s not a huge place and so you can see it all by foot in a day.  The shops were a mixture of fashion and – yes you’ve guessed it – chocolate!  There is also some interesting architecture to see, especially in the main square.BrusselsBrussels You will also find a good choice of cafes to sit and people watch whilst sipping some nice wine (or decaf coffee in my pregnant state!)  I think this trip would be ideal for a group of girlfriends who are looking for a day trip of lunch, shopping…and chocolate!
