Below is the new System 300 wardrobe from Furniture Village.  This wardrobe enables you to choose from 50 pre-designed interior options as well as the size and the interior and exterior finishes which are available in Matt White, Birch, Walnut, Cherry, Cream Gloss, Black Gloss and Mirror, it’s easy to coordinate with beds and other furniture.

The following wardrobe is from the french bedroom company, it has such an impact visually and can come across as quite masculine, yet mixed with softer furnishings and girly wallpaper it works both ways.  I think the soft curved lines makes it a really elegant piece of furniture.  To me, this is a classic piece that will stand the test of time.

If you’re looking for a more natural look then you could consider this wardrobe from oak furniture solutions. I especially like the brass handles on the drawers and seeing the natural grain of wood.  This would also be a good options if you have a lot of clothes as the triple door means it’s that much bigger then  a standard double.

For the classic and chic bedroom, try this Nordic Grey wardrobe made from pine and beechwood.  This style would work particularly well in a shabby chic style bedroom

We have been asked to transform the upstairs of a pub by turning the 5 unused rooms into modern and welcoming guest rooms.  I have to say, it’s a fantastic job to be working on as we have total creative control of the design.  Once we have finished the rooms I will post a feature with all of the ‘before’ and after pics.

Bold wallpapers, mural stickers along with transfers; I began my search mainly because I love this idea to spruce up an existing room, and was astounded at the variety and amount of websites that sell them. It is evident that the diversity is due to taste in imagery and art, here are a few of my personal favourites:

Mural stickers give you the freedom of expression to decorate your home as if it were a blank canvas, choose your style and not be confined to the borders of a frame. Instead you frame your bed with a mural or you have cheeky, unexpected little ones hiding behind the coats. So if you’re not braving the paint brushes just yet, try a sticker instead.  Below are a list of my favourite sticker companies:

The first is my all time favourite called Lassco (image above).  They sell everything from pictures, fireplaces, doors, baths and lots of retro curiosities.

If it’s radiators you are looking for then try The Cast Iron Reclamation Company-from early 19th Century to Fifties classics and the good news is they are all converted for modern central heating systems.

Probably one of the most well known companies is called Drummonds.  As well as reclaimed products they also sell fantastic repro items like this gorgeous roll top bath.  They will set you back a few pounds but that is because they are handcrafted.  Each bath takes several weeks to make by using a traditional process involving casting the raw metal, enameling and finishing by hand polish or painting. Some others to look up are Renaissance London Retrouvius Reclamation and Design.

Q: Hi Pippa.

Please help, I desperately need you advice and direction.  We have revamped our master bedroom in our 1930′s house in a contemporary style but are unable to decide on the style of bed for the room.  We have painted the walls white, installed frameless white glass sliding wardrobe doors across the chimney breast, wall to wall for a seamless finish and the floor is white laminate.  The only contrast in the room at the moment is the old stripped original door which is aged parana pine.  (shade of light oak).  Paul has seen a bed from “Dreams” which is called the Catalina Bed (white frame, chrome legs, white headboard with black panel and chrome edging) and I have found 2 x bed frames which I quite like.   The first is a white faux leather bed (called Milan) which has a tall panelled headboard.  The second is a high gloss bed from Littlewoods (available in white or black).  Shall we go for the white faux leather bed to introduce texture into the room or do you think a wooden bed frame would be more suitable.  Your help is greatly appreciated, Kindest regards from HELEN

The room sounds lovely and you have obviously been busy!  Based on the information you have given me I would opt for the leather bed. For exactly the reason that you mentioned. At moment everything is quite modern with hard surfaces; wood and glass. The leather will add a soft contrast and as you said; texture. The Catalina sounds a bit ‘hard’ with the chrome and I’m not sure the black would work in the room, especially with the wood door and the high gloss bed sounds lovely but again, I think it would be too much. Also, you need a bit of texture in the room to balance with wood grains in the door. (unless you were planning on painting this?)

I’m not sure if you have thought about the soft furnishings but I would opt for chocolate, pale green and cream. The green and chocolate will really help to balance out the colour of the wooden door and fit with your modern scheme.  Try Next for some cushions that would work in the room – click this link below:

Bright, fun, decorative and comical; these are the words I’d use to describe Kitsch.  Not for the faint hearted, this is a look that will brighten up any room in the home.  If you want to create this style but you’re a little scared to commit to a large room then why not have some fun and go for a Kitsch toilet?  It will be a good talking point when friends come over!

COLOUR BLOCKING

This is going to be a big trend for Spring/Summer 2009.  Coming straight from the catwalks of Vogue, you can expect to see this filtering through to the Homes and Interiors with bold blocks of colour on cushions, rugs, wallpaper and fabrics.

NATURE

Nature is going strong with lots of pretty botanical prints featuring birds and butterflies.  This makes beautiful wallpaper.  If I was going to introduce this look in my home I would wallpaper one wall, choosing one with no windows so you could see the whole repeat of the pattern; see it as a large piece of wall art rather than wallpaper.  The wallpaper below is called Isabella from Graham & Browns collection.

TRIBAL

Leopard skin, Ankara and Ikat are just a few of the African prints that you will see this year on cushions, tablecloths, bedding and tableware. Team this with a touch of bohemian and you have a cutting edge look.

ALL THAT SHIMMERS…

Anything with a sparkle goes.  These shimmering accessories in either; gold, bronze or silver would look great in an ultra modern home with clean lines and white walls.

South American colour scheme

With all this doom and gloom around due to the credit crunch, I thought I would post some bright colour schemes to brighten things up.  If you are bored of the neutral colours adorning the magazine pages then liven things up with hot South American tones .  The image above was inspired from a trip to Cuba. I styled the shoot with photographer Lizzie Orme and then it was published in Real Homes magazine.

Paint: To create the look use colours confidently with strong green,  bold blue and hot pink and team them with lighter colours such as soft lime and cool cream for furnishings and accessories.  There are several paint suppliers you can use to acheive the look: The  Serenity collection at Craig & Rose offers a good selection.  Dulux paints have a Rich collection that offers vibrant colours perfect for this scheme.  Their selection of ‘blue’ paints are especially stunning.

Buy some old fabric rose lights (anything other than fabric can look tacky). Hang them over a bedstead, round a wardrobe or over a window
