Sian Elin produces 'on trend' collection for Mocha

On January 8th, 2013 by .

I absolutely love this collection by Sian Elin, inspired by Scandinavian style with Moorish and Mediterranean design influences, the patterns and colours she encompasses are right on trend for 2013; graphic shapes, repeating patterns and strong blocks of colour including; vermilion, mustard and grey, all of which are strong for the coming year.  The collection features bold hand drawings which combine colour and pattern together beautifully. Sian says her inspiration for the collection came from Moorish architecture which she saw while travelling throughout the Mediterranean, and you can clearly see those influences coming through.  For an ‘on trend’ look, combine Sian’s cushions with a soft grey or classic mustard sofa (similar to my shoot with Heart Home Magazine which you can see at the top of the page). Price: Cushions: £59.99 – Tea Towels £11.99.You can see the full collection over at Mocha’s website.

Mr J Designs

On October 18th, 2012 by .

Mr J Designs, is a furniture and product design company based in North Wales, who sell a small selection of unique and stylish items.  I wanted to include the working drawings of the products as it’s fascinating to see someones design process, from an idea right through to a prototype and then the finished article.  The design below is called ‘Sideboard ‘ from the Smith Range and it is one of my favourites. The colored panels and pale wood make this a very on trend piece. Mr J Designs also offers a bespoke furniture design service.

Find your inspiration

On August 22nd, 2012 by .

I wanted to share with you a couple of my favourite pictures from Norfolk, it’s such a pretty coastline and I always feel relaxed when I’m there.  We spent most days on the beach or at the really old fashioned fairground (70′s stylie!) but the kids love it.  Now that I’m back at work, I’m trying to recapture some of that magic – more holidays please…

My visit to the ercol factory by Louisa Blackmore

On June 5th, 2012 by .

Long established British furniture company, ercol, opened the doors to its showroom and award-winning factory last week and I was lucky enough to be invited along to view their latest furniture collections (Image below: Pinto bedroom, Ercol).

Founded in 1920 by a young Italian designer, Lucian Ercolani OBE (affectionately known as “Old Man” in the company), ercol has long been renowned for its exquisite wooden furniture that not only demonstrates industry-leading design, but also outstanding quality and functionality.

Celebrating its 10th year in the heart of the Chiltern Hills, ercol’s 160,000 square foot headquarters is set in a lush, leafy area, with the factory, showroom and design studio all sitting under one roof. The environment is highly creative and you get a real sense of the pride that is taken in their work. Walking around the factory and viewing the different stages of furniture making (most of which is still done by hand) was an incredible insight into the exceptional quality, care and passion that goes into designing and manufacturing ercol furniture.

I was thrilled to see the craftsmen at ercol demonstrate the art of steam bending which is where they take a piece of solid timber and using just moisture and pressure, they bend the wood into such extreme curves that it’s difficult to believe what you’re seeing. ercol have developed and refined their steam bending techniques over the years and it’s used for many of their chairs including the hugely popular Windsor and Quaker chairsAs well as their iconic furniture ranges, ercol have launched several new collections including the new Artisan Additions. Designed by James Ryan, the new Artisan desk is crafted in solid oak and has subtle detail and clean, sleek lines (below).

Another new addition which I absolutely love are the Originals bar stools. Made from ash and beech, the design is based on the stools used by draughtsmen to sit at their drawing boards in the ercol design studio during the 50s. The design has been brought up to date to make a stool that is ideal as breakfast bar stools, perfect for use in any modern kitchen. If you’re an ercol fan and find yourself in the Chiltern Hills, I would definitely recommend a visit to their showroom to look at the collections, they also have a factory outlet on site which has amazing value offers on ex-display items, returns and seconds.

BlogTour NYC: Part 4

On April 23rd, 2012 by .

Here are a few pictures from the showroom of the One 57 building, a tour carried out by Miele as part of our BlogTourNYC.  Located at 157 West 57th Street in New York, this 90-story condominium tower will boast spectacular views of Central Park.  One 57 will be one of the highest mixed-used towers in Manhattan, where residents will enjoy exclusive 5-star services provided by the Park Hyatt hotel, which will be located on the lower 30 floors. Christian De Portzamparc is the architect and Thomas Juul-Hansen will design the interiors.

This is a virtual image of the view from living room of the penthouse.

Commissioned by Smallbone, the kitchen spec was first class with the all the latest mod-cons and appliances. I particularly liked the furniture they had chosen, the wooden textures made a refreshing contrast against the dramatic marble work surfaces.  The lighting was simplistic and used in a way that created drama and elegance.  The bar stools were also very cool as they were completely hidden and integrated into the island.

This is a small  model of the building and illustrates how high it will sit amongst the New York skyline.

After the One 57 building we headed off to Miele’s stylish showroom where we had super
cooked for us by the fantastic Adam Schop, Miele’s Table Artist.

Adam very skillfully plates our food.

Hannah and Toma have a go!

Adam cooked with all of Miele’s fantastic products, their aim is to help people enhance the way they cook, delivering a message of ‘better living’

Will and Andrew are all smiles as they await their food…

Tamara, Stacey and Toma looking very glamorous.

Stacey, Kate and Carole, relaxing after a long day, I love this photo!Carole, Will and Arianna relaxing at the roof top bar at The Sanderson Hotel

Introducing #BlogTour sponsor: Rotsen Furniture

On March 20th, 2012 by .

Rotsen Furniture, another of our sponsors for #BlogTourNYC, is best known for making one-off high end pieces for luxury hotels and aspirational residential dwellings, but the thing that makes their furniture even more beautiful, is their origin.  Rotsen melds wood from decaying bridges, old barns and demolished structures, harvested from fallen, well preserved trees, or from sustainable plantaAons, allowing the wood to be regenerated into something simply stunning. Above is their Ibocai Wood Side table with a brushed stainless steel base; usually you would associate textured and grainy wood with a rustic piece of furniture but due to the simple shape, clean lines and brushed stainless steel base, Rotsen Furniture have created a contemporary piece with style and charm. Another favourite of mine is this Single Tamburil SlabDesk and as it says, it has been made with one single slab of wood.  Again, I love the combination of reclaimed wood teamed with a contrasting metal base; a great way to add warmth and depth to a contemporary piece.  As with all of their furniture, you have Customization options with wood Sizes, Woods, Base Finishes, Legs Design and Material.  Furniture can also be customized to the clients particular specifications.

Foe more information you can visit their website or find them tweeting @rotsenfurniture

Tina started her career in finance but decided to take a leap of faith and follow her passion of design; that was 6 years ago and now her company, Tina Frey Designs, distributes her products all over the world.
