Jansen+co is a young Table Top Design Company which was founded by Anouk Jansen and Harm Magis. Their USP is ‘functional table top products that are both contemporary and original’.

Their collection is a fusion of industrial production combined with a hand finish, and what a gorgeous finish it is. The bold colours of the collection scream out at you, but the simplicity and organic style of the ceramics makes the products extremely pleasing to the eye. I hope you enjoy looking at the collection as much I did.

2013 Paint trends: part 2

Embracing the trend of Fluro, Dulux introduces ‘Collective Passion’ , their second collection from a series of five for 2013 . With punchy splashes of neon orange, red, pink, yellow and green, this collection is all about building on colour, much like a piece of artwork. The palette is then harmonised with pale neutrals for the floor and furniture, using polished and highly reflective materials.

It’s refreshing to see new paint techniques, which move away from painting a room with just one colour. Whilst it is still popular to create a feature wall, this is decorating on a whole new level! I love the second from last image with the grey sofa; the colours on the wall have been applied in painterly layers, this draws the eye up, and by using accessories in the same tone the look is pulled together.

To mirror this look, be creative with the application of paint, consider using panels of colour that graduate in intensity (look at the bedroom below for an example of this technique) add interest to long corridors by layering strong and fiery tones such as pink and orange. Treat your walls like a large canvas, feel free, and try to have some fun, although do plan out your colours before you begin. A good idea is to paint a scaled down version on a large piece of paper, that way you can test your scheme before you commit to painting the walls.

2013 Paint trends: part 1

We are always looking for room schemes that can inspire, and help us make those all important decorating decisions. The images below are taken from the first of Dulux’s five paint trends for 2013. First up is ‘The Art of Understanding’ which sees 50′s influence from the catwalk, film and TV, all of which are set to make a big impact on interiors in 2013. Pippa Jameson Interiors first wrote about this in 2010 with our feature ‘50′s Interior Trends 2010/2011‘. We predicted that this was going to be big, and we were right.

I am a big fan of this collection, and used correctly, the colours will create character and depth. The key is layering, and using accents of colour, rather than painting a whole room in one shade, which is what we have been used to. I love the first image where just the window cils have been painted with deep pink (90RR 18/450) By doing so, they become defined and several focal points are created around the room. This technique particularly suits this loft style flat, as from above, the borders are viewed as solid blocks of colour creating a more dynamic and confident look. The pink frames are then balanced with the introduction of cushions in similar tones. The secondary colour is deep blue, which adds a striking contrast. The look has been finished with a cream highlighting colour, which lightens the scheme.

Cosy Brights for Heart Home Magazine

Below are my shots for the Winter issue of Heart Home Magazine (out now!) This was a full on production, with a quick turnaround, but I am so happy with the results. Joining us on the day was a full TV crew, I can’t say too much about this yet but whilst I was busy with the TV people, we called upon the talented Joanna Thornhill to help with the styling. The pictures we were shot by the lovely Joanna Henderson, Jo is always a pleasure to work with as we are like two children in a sweetie shop when it comes to shooting together! Thanks also to the lovely Heart Home team for another fun shoot ;0)

Below is my initial sketch of how I wanted the main shot to look, I don’t normally include these in my posts (as I am no Picasso!) but sometimes, it’s interesting to see the work in progress

The gorgeous work of La Corbeille

Launched in 1997, La Corbeille Editions makes fun and contemporary products for the modern home. I remember seeing their work at Maison & Object in 2011 and fell in love with the personality of their pieces. A particular favourite of mine is the aptly named ‘Favourite Things’ Pendant light, taking a classic shaped pendant and adding an element of the unexpected. The light perfect for any room in the home, including a child’s room! I have a bit of a thing about stools and the Tabouret Stool by Jocelyn Deris is just so cute! My Olympic Angle

I have been lucky enough to visit the Olympics a few time over the last few weeks and have been completely caught up in the atmosphere, grinning like a child whenever I’ve been in the Olympic Park. I feel very proud that we have held what is being named as ‘the most successful games to date’, the athletes, the volunteers, sponsors, organisers, architects, what an amazing contribution!

I fell in love with all of the buildings, the fluid and organic shapes, the bright pops of colour and the range of materials used. Below is my take on what I saw. I hope you are all enjoying the Olympics as much as we are!

Trend: Bright & Graphic

All things bright & graphic, this is the next big trend that is slowly filtering it’s way down to the interiors market. I don’t know if you remember, but we published a trend story on graphic and digital prints last year when it was popular with fashion. Brights is something that has been around for a while but now it’s being combined with graphic prints, also look out for bold and crazy illustrations on textiles and furniture; there are going to be some shocking designs coming your way, here is a good example of what I am talking about, this a great piece in the ES by Barbara Chandler. Major retailers and independent designers such as Zoe Murphy are at the forefront of this look. Zoe, takes ordinary pieces of furniture and adorns them with cool illustrative images and transfers using a bold and clashing palette of pink, red and orange, I am a huge fan of her chest of drawers (image below). Another favourite of mine is Rachel Gornall, who makes hand dyed stitched textiles. I saw her work at Origin this year and it was simply stunning. Then of course there was the Anthony Hartley chair at LDF, that everyone was talking about. Anthony’s work is so current and best of all every multicoloured piece has its own unique colour sequence, its DNA, which is authenticated and registered to its new owner, my favourite piece is the Edna 1, it has the bright multi colored drawers but with a simple wooden casing – ‘Like’ The chairs are from Emeco, handmade from 80% recycled Aluminum. Apparently it takes 77 steps to get there but it means that they are designed to last for 150 years, that’s some promise!
