I have had the pleasure of styling for Sainsbury’s for the past few years and I have loved every minute of it. Yes, sometimes the shoots can be stressful, like losing the daylight at 3pm during the winter months (!) and when you can’t find THAT particular prop, but in terms of the creativity, I have been super lucky as I have had a lot of stylistic freedom.
I wanted to share these styled images, for Marie Claire, as they are some of my favourite. The stationary range is called Ethereal and the combination of blush pink, pastels, marble and copper are super cool and trust me when I say they are great quality (no, I am not on commission or being paid to say this)!
In the planning stages of the shoot I decided to paint the wall in soft geo pastels to tie in with the patterns on the notebook. I am also particularly proud of my DIY faux marble shelves that I made for a whopping £4!! The white melamine shelf cost just £3 and the marble transfer was £1. Trust me when I say this is a very easy and effective make. I probably wouldn’t recommend using the shelves anywhere too near moisture but the living room or kitchen area (away from water or steam) would be fine.
Choosing the right props for shoots is such a crucial part of my job, but first of all I work out the look and feel as well as the composition. Things like the height of the desk against the chair and where the product will sit in relation to the geo lines. I then trundle down to the prop house to find THAT perfect prop. In this case it was the pale blue type writer, it was important that it complimented the shot rather than detract from the actual product, something that an Interior Stylist comes up against in every shoot – be sure that you don’t over shadow the clients product with your beautiful props. I hope you like the images :)
